Life In Him
(Jn 5:26)26“For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself;
Yesterday I wrote about the living water that Jesus offered the woman at the well. We understood that water is essential to physical life, just as Jesus is essential to spiritual life. In fact until you respond and believe in Jesus the Bible says that you are dead spiritually (Eph 2:1). Here in John 5 we read much about life and Jesus is referring to eternal life. The reason that Jesus is able to provide eternal life is because of John 5:26 which says that the Father has life in Himself and the Father has given the Son the same thing life in Himself.
The Father and the Son are self-existent, meaning there is nothing needed to sustain life and there is nothing that can take life from them. We are very different because we are dependent on much in order to have life. Think about it…we are dependent on the sun, rain, water, food, oxygen, lungs, heart, blood circulation, and numerous other bodily functions in order to live. The truth is that apart from God’s mercy and grace we could not take another breath. Therefore we should praise Him for His gift of life. (Ps 145:16)16You open Your hand And satisfy the desire of every living thing.
There is much about life here in this chapter.
(Jn 5:21)21“For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes.
(Jn 5:24)24“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
(Jn 5:26)26“For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself;
(Jn 5:29)29and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.
(Jn 5:39) 39“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me;
(Jn 5:40)40and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.
Jesus words here confirm to us that there is life eternal and everlasting found in Him. Apart from Jesus there is no life. Have you placed your complete hope and trust in Jesus to give you eternal life? There are no substitutes, without Jesus you will come into judgment and perish. Come to Jesus today and you will have eternal life in Him, because He has life in Himself.
Prayer: Father of Life, I praise you for your mercy, grace, kindness, goodness, love, longsuffering, and self-sufficiency. I have great joy that in you and Jesus is life eternal. I pray that others may hear and understand your words of life from this chapter. Give me the ability to communicate your word today where other may here and believe. Thank you for the scriptures that point, guide, and direct us to You, the Life Giver, In Jesus name. Amen.
