3/7/10 John 2
Just Do It
(Jn 2:5)5His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”
In John 2 we read about the wedding in Cana. Whoever was getting married seems to have been close to the family of Mary, the mother of Jesus. The scriptures say that Mary, Jesus and His disciples were all invited. Like any close friend of the family Mary was doing what she could to make sure that everything went well during this joyous time for this family. Mary learns that the wine had run out before the celebration had run out. Mary knew that she only had a few moments to save this bridegroom and his family from the embarrassment of running out of wine. The wine was gone and surely someone would request another drink shortly. Mary tells Jesus the situation and believes that He will be able to fix this situation. She does not do this because she has seen Him perform miracles before. She simply trusts in her son to be able to do something. She then proceeds to tell the servant waiters to do whatever he says. Jesus tells them to fill up six waterpots with water and then draw out the water out and take it to the headwaiter. They do exactly as Jesus had instructed and when the headwaiter tasted what was water, it had now become wine of superior quality to the wine that ran out.
There is a great lesson for us to observe here. Jesus has given his followers numerous commands to follow. The last verse in the book of Matthew Jesus tells his disciples to teach others “all that I have commanded.” We must be ready and willing to do whatever he says. In order to know what his commands are it is important for us to be reading His word (commands) to us daily. When we do what he says we may be surprised to learn someday just how Jesus used our humble and ordinary lives as a miracle. In order to hear what He says you must be seeking Him and taking time to hear His voice. Before He uses you, you need to be abiding in His presence just as these servants were. Today, whatever He says to you, do it.
Prayer: Father in Heaven it is amazing that you desire to use men, women, boys, and girls to accomplish your will on earth as it is in Heaven. Lord you are my shepherd I will be listening to hear your voice today so I can follow you and do as you want done in Jesus name. Amen.
