3/5/10 Luke 24  Remember His Words

Luke 24:8 And they remembered His words,

On the first day of the week there were some women that came to the tomb and found it empty.  This perplexed them and suddenly two angels appeared.  The angels state “Why do you seek the living One among the dead?  He is not here, but He has risen.  Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee.”  Jesus has been speaking to his followers throughout his ministry about a time when he would be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be killed, and raised up on the third day (Luke 9:22, 9:44, 18:32-33).   After the women heard what the angels said, verse 8 says, “And they remembered His words,”   They had remember His words and went to go and report it to the disciples.  When they reach the disciples, they report to them what they saw, heard, and remembered, but verse 11 says that their report appeared to apostles and the others with them as nonsense.

Peter and John decided to check things out and rushed to the tomb.  We know John also accompanied Peter from the Gospel of John chapter 20.  Jesus then approaches two men that were going to Emmaus and asks them what they are discussing.  They recount everything to Jesus, whom they did not recognize, even of what the angels had told the women.  Jesus’ response must have caught them off guard, which accuses them of not believing what the prophets had spoken.  He then takes them through an accelerated Old Testament survey class with emphasis on the Messiah.

We do well when we remember His words.  We ought to take time daily to remember His words.  God’s word is God’s speech.  Jesus is the Word of God (John 1:1), Jesus is God in the flesh (John 1:14), Jesus is God’s Son and we are to listen to Him (Luke 9:35), Jesus has gone to prepare a place for his people (John 14:2), Jesus will return someday (John 14:3).  Remember His Words.  As Luke 9:44 states, “Let these words sink into your ears.”

Prayer:  Father apart from you we cannot know spiritual truth (Luke 9:45).  You alone reveal spiritual truth.  Father help me remember His words, that I may know, understand, and apply spiritual truth to my heart and overflow to others.  Grant me you servant spiritual wisdom.  I ask that His words would be hid in my heart and flow from my mouth like fresh spring water cascading down into the hearts of others to be filtered and flow from them also, in Jesus name. Amen.
