    Rejecting the Wrong Person

(Lk 10:16)16c and he who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.”

Chapter 10 is filled with many things for me today.  I really enjoyed reading and meditating on this passage this morning.  Although there were several things that caught my attention, the final phrase in Lk 10:16 is what I would like to consider.  Chapter nine ends with what is necessary to be a follower of Christ, a disciple.  Chapter 10 begins with Jesus appointing seventy other disciples to go out into pairs into every city that Jesus was going to come.  In a strange way this could be one of the first demographic studies similar to what many church planters do before they decide to build a church.   But the difference is most church plants look to see where the conditions are favorable.  Here Jesus will go to the very places that his surveyor’s message had been rejected.

In verses 13-15 Jesus has a non-seeker sensitive message for these towns.  They will be judged severely for not receiving the message of the kingdom of God.  The message is all about Jesus, so to reject Jesus is to reject the message.  Then Jesus states anyone who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.  Thus in rejecting Jesus you have rejected the Father, God Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth, and the Judge to whom everyone must give an account.  On the Day of Judgment there may be one question that is asked; Did you reject my Son, Jesus?  That is the question for you today.  Before you answer too quickly, be sure to consider Jesus’ sobering words in Matthew 7:21-23.

Prayer:  I praise You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have sent us Jesus to know the message of your kingdom.  Lord, I ask that today I would be an effective disciple taking your message to the places that I will go today.  It is my prayer that people would receive You as You give me opportunity to share Jesus with them, in Jesus name.  Amen.

    UPDATE

All day I was seeking someone that I would be able to effectively witness to.  I had a desire to for the rude cashier that we had at Sam’s, but I nothing came to my mind that would point her to Jesus, so we were just kind and wished her a good day.  Well, late in the day Katie and I were at the park picking up Jake and I noticed a couple that did not look like they were from the Dayton area.  Her shirt displayed a skull and cross bones and His body displayed numerous items from his arms to the middle of his clean shaven head, multiple tattoos. It turns out that they were from out of town, South Carolina in fact, they were here visiting family and thinking about moving to this area.   I ask that you would pray for this couple and their only daughter.  I shared with them what I had read from Luke 10:16 this morning and they listened and were kind.  DD
