The Seed
(Lk 8:11)11“Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God.
There is a direct connection between the word of God and a fruitful life. What is largely missing in the lives of church attendees is the seed. A large percentage of people who attend church do not have a consistent time in the word of God through the week. It is evident because of how little is known about what the word of God says and how little fruit is being produced. There are thousands of excuses as to why many do not take time and read, study, meditate, and memorize God’s word, but it really comes down to an issue of love. (Jn 14:21)21“He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.” I want to encourage you to love the Lord your God by spending time with Him and that begins not with church attendance, but spending time in His Word. The reason that I have been encouraged our church to read through the New Testament twice this year is so that we will know God intimately, His plans, and His purposes, in order that our lives and our church would bear fruit with perseverance (Luke 8:15). Everyone knows that without a seed nothing will grow. Every good farmer knows that it takes work and cultivation to have the seed grow where it will produce fruit. May each of us press on to cultivate our love for the Lord rather than having our love diverted by “worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity” (Luke 8:14).
Prayer: Father I ask that You would create in me a desire and a discipline to spend quality and quantity time with You. My desire is that your Word “the seed” would be in me and I would obey so fruit would be produced. I ask that in due time a great harvest of fruit would be presented to You for Your glory. You are the only one that can cause things to grow and produce. I pray that my life will not be a life that brings no fruit to maturity. Thank You for the Word that You have sown in my life. I praise You for all that it has taught me about You and myself and others. I praise you for the how it has guided me. I praise You that You loved me first and are continuing to teach me how to love You supremely and others faithfully, in Jesus name. Amen.
