1/30/10 Mark 6
Rest a While
Mk 6:31 Jesus tells his disciples that it is time to go to a secluded place and rest a while. Ministry can be exhausting and it is important to take time to get away. This can be a hard thing to do unless getting away is made a priority. Additionally, as we are raising a family with four young children it can be exhausting. In fact, this past week I told an individual my children’s ages and his response was, “Ah, you are still in the tired stage.” Jesus understands the physical and spiritual necessity of getting away because his disciples were tired after much ministry. While I am not able to get away to a secluded place right now, I am going to take advantage of “resting a while” as we have decided not to have services tomorrow, because of the icy conditions. For me it is a mixed blessing, I love being with our Birchwood Family, but after a busy week with no day off, and I anticipate tomorrow to be a relaxing day.
Prayer: Father, I am amazed at your graciousness in all things including the need for physical rest. I ask that you would help me make times away a priority for my family and my church family. Teach me about your kindness and grace during these times of rest. In Jesus name, Amen.
