1/11/10 Matthew 13 Parables
As we read Mt 13 we noticed that it is this chapter that Matthew groups 8 different parables. A parable is an extended, metaphor, aphorism, or simile. Some ground rules for interpreting parables are;
· They are designed to repeat or stress a single truth.
· They are designed to answer a single question.
· They are designed to capture the listener and make him a participant.
· They are to be interpreted inductively. Inductive means to look at the particulars to determine the general.

Prayer: Father give us understanding of the parables throughout the scriptures. When we understand correctly, give us the grace need to apply and respond correctly. When we do not understand we ask for your patience with us until we come to a faithful and accurate understanding. Forgive us for our minimal effort to try and understand the scriptures. Show us truth that we have not yet learned in the days to come. Amen
